Stock market volatility usually makes protected or guaranteed investment products more attractive. They work by putting most of the investor's money into an interest-bearing account and using the remainder to buy a call option. The end result is that the capital is safe, the investor has exposure to rising prices with no risk from falling prices. As a reference point, the Post Office recently issued the sixth of its Five year Saver bonds. Half the money earns 5.5 per cent gross per annum for the five year fixed period, while the other half benefits from a 50 per cent return on any increase in the FTSE-100 Index over the same period....
