General manager of World of Golf Glasgow
After more than a decade in the hospitality industry Yvonne Park jumped at the chance to switch disciplines.
When World of Golf needed someone to run its complex in Glasgow Park encompassing a 72 bay driving range and teaching academy Park, already a keen player of the game, couldn't wait to get started.
Now 10 years on the site attracts 120,000 visitors a year.
Park has most recently been focused on the opening of a £500,000 dinosaur themed adventure golf course called Jurassic Parrr.
She said: "It has been a fascinating and, at times, hair-raising experience, and I must say it's surreal to watch a life-size Stegosaurus being hoisted over 100 metres in the air.
"A typical working week has been discussing all manner of things with planners, designers, graphic artists, engineers, IT people and theming specialists from the UK.
"And, of course, sourcing, ordering and taking delivery of life-like, animatronic dinosaurs created by the team behind the BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs series that roar and swish their tales wasn't without its difficulties. It's a lot simpler ordering golf balls and replacement bulbs for floodlights.
"When the dinosaurs arrived on a fleet of low-loaders from the south of England, attracting lots of calls to the Chris Evans Radio 2 morning show along the way, I felt I was greeting long-lost friends. It was a great feeling."
Park hopes the course, which has has attracted more than 8,000 visitors since opening in October, can encourage more young people to take up golf.
She added: "Our free sessions for beginners, introduced last year during the World Cup, are proving popular so we hope Jurassic Parrr will be a fun way to generate further interest in golf among children in Scotland.
"Learning to operate such an outdoor attraction is not without its challenges such as the heavy rainfall we face. But the positive feedback and seeing the children have fun makes it all worthwhile.
"Now we are looking at ways to display players scores via smart phone apps and social media platforms such as Facebook."
