Founder of No Excuses Networking
After more than a decade advising companies on marketing and media relations Fiona Nicolson was keen to spread her wings slightly.
In February last year No Excuses Networking was launched to bring together business owners, directors and senior managers in an informal setting.
Though the group meets in Edinburgh members are drawn from across the central belt.
Nicolson said: "The events are informal, with no presentations, speakers or pitches.
"Attendees can choose to network as much or as little as they want at the event.
"But most take the opportunity to seek out contacts who can help them achieve their goals.
"As well as meeting new clients and strengthening existing business relationships, people attend to source suppliers, advisers, employees, or employers."
The group now has more than 100 members with events usually attracting upwards of 50 people.
It also appears to be more than just another excuse to go to the pub though.
Nicolson said: "Reports are that people are achieving their aims.
"One member tells me that the return on their investment from joining currently stands at 7000 per cent."
The success of the club prompted Nicolson to launch a spin off called No Excuses Introduces where businesses are encouraged to share details of recent successes.
She adds: "I am often surprised to hear that successful, growing and interesting businesses are keeping their good news to themselves.
"This event gives them an opportunity to share it."
