In brief...: Butlins lifted by UK boom

Holiday firm Butlins has announced a significant jump in the number of bookings it has taken for its peak season from July to September 2008.

Up 15 per cent from the same time last year, it appears the firm is reaping the rewards of the boom in UK holidays and is evidence of people's intent to stay at home during the hard economic climate.

The company reports an expected 150,000 guests will be at one of its three seaside resorts - Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness - over the next six weeks, many of whom are holidaying at Butlins for the first time.
