In brief...: Crisis fails to hit breaks

Despite the ongoing gloomy economic outlook Britons are reluctant to give up on their annual two weeks in the sun.

A survey of more than 1,000 customers throughout the UK by travel website alpharooms.com revealed that 82 per cent of people would rather tighten their belts and scrimp and save on other household expenditures before giving up their cherished break on the beach.

When questioned, the majority opted to forego luxuries and new clothes in order to afford their annual getaway.
