Frequent flyer air miles schemes could be scrapped by airlines due to new accountancy rules and the tough economic climate.
Under International Accounting Standards Board regulations airlines now have to place a much higher cost on their frequent flyer programmes, concierge company WhiteConcierge said.
This, and high fuel prices, could lead to airlines selling all or part of their frequent flyer schemes off or restricting them to a more select group of passengers, it said.
