In brief...: US medical costs alert

The pound may be strong against the dollar but the US is the most expensive country to have a medical problem while on holiday, a survey by Insure and Go has revealed.

Claims made by customers of Insure and Go in the US last year totalled on average £1,241.

This was 16 per cent more than the next most-expensive country, Thailand, and more than twice when compared to Spain. The poll also found that travellers to the US made the most claims last year and in 2006.
