In brief...: Warning on passports

Britons are putting themselves at risk while abroad by not carrying up-to-date documents, a survey has found.

As many as 20 per cent of UK travellers do not know when their passport expires, the survey by the Department of Health showed.

And 50 per cent were unaware that their European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) have a shelf life, with three million of the cards due to expire between September 2008 and March 2 009.
