In brief...: Edinburgh top location
Edinburgh has been ranked way ahead of key rival English cities in a new list of world's top destinations.
The capital was ranked 27th in Trip Advisor's 2008 Travellers' Choice Destinations, based on the opinions of travellers worldwide, and was placed 10th in Europe's top 25.
Edinburgh saw off competition from York and London but the honour of top British destination went to Bath at number 14.
Edinburgh was also placed ahead of other notable European tourist cities such as Florence (33rd), Paris (57th) and Barcelona (90th).
