The West End's time in the spotlight is over, with the East End emerging as London's rising star, according to a new Lonely Planet guidebook just out.

The East End is seen as the "real London" and the area is benefiting from the popularity of the Millennium Dome's successor, The O2 Arena, and by the fact that the 2012 Olympics' major events will be at Stratford in East London, the guide says.
