Bill payers are failing to keep track of their spending despite feeling the pinch from the credit crunch, according to a survey.

The YouGov poll reveals three quarters of Britons can't account for every penny they spend and half have only avague idea of their bank balance.

And despite nearly half the 35 to 44-year-olds quizzed complaining of being hit by the credit crunch, most have not checked if changing service providers could save them money.
