My working life..

Campbell MacLeod, director and hire manager, Cameron Presentations

Leaving school at 16, Campbell MacLeod had no idea what he wanted to do.

After two years of temporary jobs he went on a work placement with The Thomas Foundation Television College. MacLeod had found his niche as he gained an insight into the workings of a broadcast TV station.

He spent several years honing his skills working at Bell College in the TV and sound studio and then on to Strathclyde University in the TV unit.

Twenty years ago he joined Cameron Presentations as an audio visual technician before being promoted to hire manager and is now a director. His team work with a range of clients including government bodies, blue chip companies, financial organisations and charities.

However, you never stop learning and MacLeod admits: "It's a dynamic industry and I need to keep up-to-date with the latest technology, equipment and techniques.

"A typical working week involves weekly meetings with staff to brief them, the management and sales team to communicate all the jobs we have on and what we're going to be doing, project-related internal meetings to come up with some new creative ideas and finally I meet with our Glasgow and Edinburgh teams and our PR and marketing agency to update them and to discuss what's happening in the business.

"During the day, the office is busy, the phones are ringing and emails come flooding in - there is no time to deal with paperwork and admin tasks.

"Typically the office operates a longer day than most, as we have different events on at different times of the day, so there are people working seven days a week."

However, MacLeod makes sure he can spend time away from work.

"I am a football fan, so Saturdays are generally kept for going to a game."
