In brief...: Migrant staff good for UK

Migrant workers are continuing to be welcomed to the UK by employers keen to recruit skilled staff, especially doctors, nurses, chefs and labourers, according to a new report.

A survey by recruitment firm Manpower said one in five firms were hiring foreign labour to meet shortages, with staff being recruited mainly from Poland, India, Latvia and Australia.

However, more than half of UK workers would consider moving abroad for work, with Australia and the US topping the destination wish-list.

Mark Cahill, managing director of Manpower UK, said: "The UK is benefiting from foreign workers who bring skills and add to workplace diversity."

He said the flow of workers into and out of the UK is a "win-win" situation.
