In brief...: Makeover for Tanfield landmark

A major refurbishment is to be carried out on a landmark building.

The former Standard Life building at Tanfield in Edinburgh is to be transformed by global private equity firm The Carlyle Group along with its joint venture partner Bellhouse Joseph.

There development will see the Tanfield roof lifted off to draw in natural light within the landmark building located on a prime site between the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Water of Leith at Silvermills.

Designers have created a number of affordable and flexible, self contained office suites ranging from just under 7,000 square feet up to the full capacity of the site, over 190,000 square feet.

Akey aspect of the redevelopment is the huge public area within the building, featuring an internal streetscape for people to work, socialise and relax.

There development will ensure that the building is environmentally friendly, with plans to reduce energy use on the site by 30 to 40 per cent.
