In brief...: Airport gets fresh look

Glasgow airport boss Gordon Dewar used a silver trowel to smooth the last section of concrete while, in keeping with tradition, a small branch was tied to the highest point of the new £31million Skyhub project.

The 43,000 sq ft extension is due to open to the public on October 21. It will provide a new security search area and bars, shops and restaurants. The new extension will also feature a cladding system known as Kalwall.

Devised in the US, and used by NASA at its vehicle assembly plant at the Kennedy Sp ace Centre in Florida, the translucent fibreglass reinforced material converts energy from the sun to heat, cool and naturally light buildings, reducing the need for artificial heating and lighting.
