In brief...: Insight on corporate homicide

A partner at Paull and Williamsons has co-authored a book on corporate killing.

Rona Jamieson has written the text in collaboration with Peter Gray QC.

The book, called The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, is being published at the end of April.

It features a comprehensively annotated version of the new Act and explains the implications the legislation holds for organisations.

Jamieson, a leading expert on health and safety law, has worked on projects including the Piper Alpha disaster.

She said: "The business sector could face record fines when new corporate killing laws come into force on April 6.

"It is expected that more organisations will be prosecuted when the legislation is introduced."

TheCorporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 may lead to companies being fined as much as 10 per cent of their annual turnover.
