Mutual named Busienss of the Year at 2013 Association of Scottish Businesswomen Awards
Glasgow Credit Union was named Business of the Year at the 2013 Association of Scottish Businesswomen Awards.
The awards, which showcase and celebrate the achievements of women and businesses working across Scotland, was in recognition of the company's “outstanding service and community ethos”.
Glasgow Credit Union is the largest and most successful of the UK’s 390 credit unions, boasting 32,000 members and an asset base of more than £115 million.
Chief executive, June Walker, said the mutual was “extremely honoured” to win the award.
She said: “To receive such a prestigious accolade is testament to the hard work and commitment of my team and reinforces the positive impact our services have on our members.
“As a financial mutual, we’re owned by our members, people who live or work within the “G” postcode area.
“They trust us, not only to provide them with ethical financial services but also to provide a real alternative to High Street banking.
“Our innovative products have been designed with our members in mind and to suit their changeable financial needs.”
ASB president, Sheila Hogan, said: "The range and calibre of entries for the Awards increases year on year and the judges have to work very hard to arrive at a winner.
“Glasgow Credit Union is the most successful credit union in the UK and the outstanding service and community ethos they offer has been recognised with the Business of the Year Award.”
The ASB awards, founded in 2002, recognise the achievements of women and businesses that make a positive contribution to society.
