178 jobs to go in Scotland as part of wider 66 store closure UK-wide which will see 930 jobs go
Administrators appointed to HMV are to close 11 of its Scottish stores as part of a wider 66 store closure plan which will see 930 people lose their jobs.
Deloitte said the shops would continue to trade but the closures were expected over the next one to two months.
A total of 11 HMV stores in Scotland have been earmarked for closure, which will result in 178 people losing their jobs.
All five of the HMV stores in Edinburgh are to close as well as three in Glasgow.
Scottish stores identified for closure are Dumfries, Edinburgh Fort, Edinburgh Gyle Centre, Edinburgh Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh Princes Street, Edinburgh St James Centre, Falkirk, Glasgow Fort, Glasgow Silverburn, Glasgow Braehead and Kirkcaldy.
Administrator Nick Edwards said the shops were identified as part of an ongoing review of the company's financial position and he is still hopeful in securing a future for the restructured business.
He said: "This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business' future as a going concern.
"We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period."
The group had 220 UK stores employing more than 4.300 people, including the Fopp brand, when it called in the administrators last month.
Hopes of a rescue deal had been raised after restructuring firm Hilco - the group behind HMV Canada - bought the company's debt.
Last week administrators cut 190 jobs at HMV's head office and distribution arm.
The 91-year-old retail chain was forced to call in administrators after failing to convince its suppliers – including Universal Music, which came to its rescue in January 2011 – with a financing deal to reduce its £220 million bank debt.
The retailer also failed to strike an agreement on new financing terms.
Hilco acquired around £60 million of the group's debt from Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group for an undisclosed sum.
