Planning approved for new store at site formally occupied by Focus DIY
Garden centre chain Dobbies has announced plans to create 120 new jobs in Inverness after securing planning permission to convert a site formally occupied by Focus DIY.
Dobbies, which is owned by retail giant Tesco, said its aims to open the new £5 million store development in the spring of 2013.
Tesco, which already has a store next door to the Focus DIY site at the city's Inshes Retail Park, will share a customer entrance with Dobbies – the first such tie-in between the firms in Scotland.
Dobbies property director Stuart Wright said: "We’re delighted to be a step closer to opening our first Dobbies garden centre in Inverness.
“We are investing some £5 million in the project, which will create 120 new jobs for the community, all of which in turn will have a significant effect on the local economy for many years to come.”
Dobbies said the new jobs would be a range of full and part-time positions.
