Executive will explore social networks and mobile platforms
Standard Life has hired a new head of digital operations.
David Ratcliffe is leaving his post as head of digital with newspaper and radio company Claverley Group to take responsibility for the insurer's presence on digital platforms.
In the newly created role he will also look at ways to "effectively manage new channels" including social networks and mobile applications.
Ratcliffe, formerly a director on interactive television at 24/7 Real Media, said: "Standard Life's commitment to developing its digital channels and advancing its technological capabilities, both in the past and in the future, were strong factors in attracting me to the post.
"Standard Life is in a very advanced position in the digital space. My task is to really drive development forward by securing commonality and integration across all of our digital channels to maximise their performance. This will ensure the company remains on the front foot of technological innovation.
"My team will also be proactive in identifying how Standard Life's digital function can support each business unit within the company, helping them reach their own goals and objectives."
Kevin O'Shaughnessy, group digital director, said: "David brings with him more than a decade of experience in working in technology and he will play a vital role in driving Standard Life's digital strategy forward.
"His success in delivering mobile, social media, search engine optimisation and behavioural targeting campaigns will be of great value to the company.
"Integrating the right technology into a company's business model is vital for success in this fast changing consumer world as it makes it more nimble and flexible."
