Bumper payout for Alliance and Leicester directors after takeover

ALLIANCE & Leicester's top directors will gain huge windfalls for simply staying in their jobs following the lender's £1.3billion takeover by Spanish bank Santander.

Santander are offering retention bonuses of up to 125 per cent of salary for their top four bosses.

Chief executive David Bennett, left, who has been in the top job little more than a year, could land £750,000.
