EMI appoint former Dettol chief as new music boss

THE former boss of a household goods firm was yesterday named head of EMI's recorded music division.

Elio Leoni-Sceti, formerly Reckitt Benckiser's European head, is EMI Music's new chief executive.

The 42-year-old worked at Reckitt, who produce Dettol and Nurofen, for 16 years. He has never worked in the record industry. EMI's roster of artists includes acts such as Coldplay, Kylie Minogue and Lily Allen.

EMI were taken over by private equity firm Terra Firma last year, with the loss of 2000 jobs.

Interim executive chairman Guy Hands promised a "revolutionary" overhaul.

He will now become EMI non-executive chairman.

He said Leoni-Sceti has "outstanding leadership qualities ideally suited to ensuring that EMI is a successful business".
