In brief...: Retail chain buy-out claim

Retail giant Sports Direct has declined to comment on reports that it was buying Fort William based outdoor clothing and equipment chain Nevisport.

Founded in 1970 by rock climbers Ian Sutherland and Ian Sykes, the company was sold to a management team led by Bruce Cameron three years ago. It has some 13 outlets but has reported losses for the past three years in a tough trading environment.

Sports Direct, whose portfolio includes a 30 per cent stake in Blacks Leisure, is headed by Newcastle United FC chief Mike Ashley.
