Aker will deliver drilling equipment to offshore contractor Tranocean
Norwegian listed oil and gas firm Aker Solutions' Aberdeen unit has secured a £5 million drilling equipment order with offshore drilling contractor Transocean.
The order, which includes a hydraulic power unit, five iron roughnecks and one drilling derrick machine, will be delivered in the second quarter of 2013.
All of the equipment orders, as well as further work to upgrade various drill kits, are being delivered from Aker's Aberdeen unit.
Michael Griffin, UK managing director of Aker Solutions' drilling technologies business, said: “I am pleased that we are continuing to develop our relationship with Transocean.
“Securing these orders is a reflection of our approach of working closely with our customers to understand their needs and provide them with drilling solutions for the future.”
Last March, Aker announced plans to create 500 new jobs in Scotland by 2014, adding to the firm's 2,700 employees working in the industry in Scotland at its subsea and drilling technology bases in Dyce and Portlethen.
