The superman quest

The search for more supermen and women is underway with the backing of a leading energy boss.

Action man Ian Marchant, chief executive of Scottish and Southern Energy, is heading the charge for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres team-building weekend challenges.

The Scottish leg is Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike which takes in the Great Glen Way in the Highlands.

The gruelling 24-hour event sees teams biking 30 miles then choosing to hike either eight, 22 or 43 miles.

Marchant, a director on Maggie's board, has led out colleagues in the challenge before as well as competing in sister event the Ridgeway MegaHike in Oxfordshire.

He said: "As a corporate team-building experience, Maggie'sMonster and MegaHike are second to none. They are remarkable challenges that bring individuals together as they use determination, teamwork and good spirits to complete the events - characteristics that should be in any good workplace."

Last year more than 600 people completed Monster, raising £600,000 while consuming 2,000 cups of tea and coffee, 800 baked potatoes and 700 bacon rolls.

The events takes place on May 3 and 4 with the MegaHike following on May 24 and 25.
