The launch of Edinburgh's new online image archive will see thousands of photographs, prints, watercolours, etchings and engravings being digitised in a big project.

To mark the undertaking, several luminaries were invited to choose their favourite images to form a new show - Edinburgh Past and Present. Sandy Crombie took time out from plotting the next move for Standard Life to heap praise on a photograph from 2007 by Kevin MacLean. The scene shows the Scottish Parliament, Calton Hill and The Royal High School building.
