EMI out of tune

The music industry is in a bit of turmoil at the moment with EMI cutting 2,000 jobs, but is making artists work harder the way forward?

We only ask as Scots troubadour Kevin McDermott, who is on Scots indie label NoStrings Records, played six gigs on Wednesday to promote new solo album Wish to the Fade.

His whistlestop tour of Beanscene venues began at 12.30pm in Hawick then took in Edinburgh, St Andrews, Stirling and Glasgow before kicking off his final show in Ayr at 9.30pm.

Kudos to the coffee house chain for setting up the event but we can't see EMI bosses persuading acts such as Robbie Williams and Coldplay to take up such ahectic schedule.
